Suicide note reveals rape

- Codelia Mondela

A RAPE victim’s suicide note sold out the assailant who allegedly raped and tried to sodomise her three years ago.

e 11-year-old victim, who is a niece to the suspect, wrote the suicide note last Saturday leading to the arrest of the accused.

The minor’s mother, who stumbled onto the suicide note, is said to have persuaded her not to take her life.

The man (60) whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the minor, allegedly kissed the complainant before raping her in 2015 when she was eight years old.

He allegedly told the child that her vagina was too small and made her lie facing downwards as he attempted to sodomise her.

The accused yesterday appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Franklin Mkhwananzi facing charges of rape, attempted rape and indecent assault.

He was not asked to plead and remanded in custody to April 5. Mr Mkhwananzi advised the man to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Tawurai Hondoyemoto alleged that the man raped his paternal niece when she went to his home during school holidays.

He said the man called the child into his bedroom and raped her once before attempting to sodomise her.

The accused was allegedly disturbed by the complainant’s cousin who peeped through the window when he was about to sodomise her and he then released her.

Mr Hondoyemoto said on March 17 this year, at around 7PM the minor wrote a suicide note and her mother stumbled on it and when she interrogated her, the complainant narrated her ordeal. — @MondelaC
