Tread cautiously on trade deals
EDITOR: Mr President, you are a hardworking man, I have worked with you and I know how committed you are to the emancipation of the country, especially after so many years of destruction.
Your goodwill can be seen especially with regards to the Belarus mechanisation deals which you fought very hard to ensure that the country gets the advanced technologies for the mechanisation of Zimbabwean agricultural and mining activities; how some of the ministers undermined these deals.
But all the same you have to understand your people; they have been in years of perpetual struggle, solitude and deprivation and they have every reason to watch your every move with a lot of circumspection.
Be that as it may, we trust your work ethic, we value the efforts and the sleepless nights that you spend, working to make Zimbabwe a better nation in a community of countries.
Hopefully this will pay off. But as a word of caution, these deals you are negotiating, it is our hope that due diligence will be applied.
We do not want a lot of misfiring like what happened to the Zisco-Essar deal, Gieger International deal for the Beitbridge-Harare-Chirundu dualisation and the Midlands solar farm saga.
All these require a very competent team together with technocrats who work diligently. All the best in your endeavours. Let us build a better Zimbabwe, a home to many Zimbabweans. — Proud Zimbabwean
