Sheasham whip Blanket Mine

- Lovemore Zigara in Gweru

SHEASHAM came out guns blazing to register their first win in the Zimbabwe General Medical Aid Fund Central Soccer League encounter in Gwanda at the weekend.

The Gweru-based outfit whipped struggling Blanket Mine 3-0 following changes made to the technical department by the team’s executive. Jairos Tapera was brought in as technical manager.

Sheasham scored through former Chapungu striker Tinei Chitora, Timani Tom from a free kick and a late strike by Brian Sarupinda.

Tapera said: “It’s a positive result which everyone had been clamouring for and a good start for me as a coach. My target is to win the next game and see where it leads us at the end of the season.”

The result leaves the team in sixth position with four points.

Elsewhere, the top-of-the table clash pitting FC Lessafre and log leaders Whawha ended in a stalemate after the teams played to a 1 – 1 draw at Wilson Fields.

A first half strike by skipper Gerald Muringani gave Whawha the lead, but it was cancelled by Aleck Marime in the second half to ensure a share of the spoils.

Both coaches were satisfied with the outcome of the match.

“It was a good result taking into consideration that FC Lesaffre is a good team. I am happy with the point we salvaged since they are good competition and gave us a run for our money,” said Whawha mentor Luke Petros – Jukulile.

His FC Lessafre counterpart Peter Manoti said the game was an acid test for his lads and was testimony that they can hold their own on the big stage.

“We are happy considering that we are debutants and Whawha are a seasoned team and therefore it was an acid test for us. We just want the players to keep on learning and so far they have shown that they have the pedigree to stand up to the league’s big boys,” said Manoti.
