BULAWAYO, Saturday, May 9, 1993 — Arguably one of the best boxers in the country, Clever “Nightshow” Mafukidze has been offered a six-year boxing scholarship in the United States of America.

The middle-weight number one boxing contender and Masvingo-based Nightshow, as he is better known by his fans, said that the scholarship will be sponsored by former Zimbabwe and Masvingobased Ian MacIntosh.

Nightshow said that before he goes for his six-year scholarship in the United States, he will first go for two pre-scholarship training in South Africa for two months.

He said the two pre-scholarship training in Zambia and South Africa were sourced by his manager/ promoter and former Masvingo mayor, Partson Leader Muzvidziwa.

The 24-year old boxer is scheduled to leave for Zambia on June 1 and will stay in the country for a month before leaving for Johannesburg on July 1 for another month.

While in these co0untrie4s, Nightshow will be rubbing shoulders with those boxers who have international experience.

“At the moment I cannot just believe it that I am the one who got the scholarship. This is a chance in life and I must fully utilise it,’’ said the over-excited Nightshow.

He said he is now applying for an education leave from his employers, the Municipality of Masvingo where he is employed as a policeman.
