Kufandada lights up Southern Region Division One

- Ricky Zililo Senior Sports Reporter

TALEN Vision marksman Grey Kufandada will be presented with the Nokel Security Southern Region Division One League’s April top goal scorer accolade before his team’s game against Toronto at Gifford High School tomorrow.

Kufandada banged in four goals in the league’s opening four games, beating teammate Ossie Miniru, Morgan Mungombe of Makomo and Tsholotsho’s Tinashe Mthimkhulu, who scored three goals each during this period.

Zifa Southern Region administrator Augustine Ndlovu said Nokel Security director Kenneth Mhlophe will present the award to Kufandada.

“The presentation for the Nokel Security Southern Region Division One League top goal scorer for April was delayed because some of the teams had fixture backlogs, which have since been cleared. Talen Vision striker Grey Kufandada will be presented with his award this weekend. He will pocket $200 for his efforts,” said Ndlovu.

The award should inspire Kufandada to help his team rediscover its form following last weekend’s 0-1 loss to Casmyn in Turk Mine.

Talen Vision slipped from third to sixth on the league table after that defeat and now trail leaders Tsholotsho, who are on 14 points, by five points after six games.

To get their title hopes back on track, Talen Vision will be hard-pressed for victory against Toronto, who are still searching for their first win of the season.

Toronto have been dealt a blow heading into the encounter, as two of their players Prince Dube and Alexious Jubane will be serving suspensions.

ZPC Hwange will also be fighting to get their title aspirations back on track when they take on Casmyn following last weekend’s 1-2 loss to army side Indlovu Iyanyathela.

Second-placed Makomo are in Bulawayo for a date with ZRP Bulawayo, while Hwange will be on the road to face NRZ Leopards. Meanwhile, Tsholotsho’s game against CIWU has been moved from tomorrow to Sunday due to the unavailability of Luveve stadium, which will play host to a Premiership game between Chicken Inn and Harare City tomorrow. — @ZililoR
