Overcoming the green-eyed monster

-

Proverbs 14 vs 30 (NIV) “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.”

I have often wondered what causes a person to be jealous of another, what drives this negative emotion that says, “Why should you be better than me, why should you have what I don’t have, why do you get the better breaks in life?” Many a relationship has been destroyed all because people have allowed jealousy to overcome them to a point where it has consumed them and caused outright hurt of not only the aggrieved party, but others who come into contact with this negativity.

Miriam, the sister of Moses, is best known for having felt this emotion over her brother’s ability to communicate with the heavens, to a point where the LORD had to intervene and reattribute her by inflicting her with leprosy. The LORD dislikes jealousy and He demands that none of us be of that disposition. The LORD shows favour on whoever He so decides and sometimes our human emotions are fighting against the blessings of the LORD as reposed on another.

It is common knowledge that when you fight against the will of GOD, there can only be one winner. So when we fight against those that He has chosen, instead of cooperating with them, we wage war against His angels and His will. Wouldn’t you rather work with those He has chosen and bask in their blessings, and in so doing, grow yourself? Take time to ask GOD to help you overcome this emotion. Work with His chosen servants to do great things and as you do, you will benefit as well. Work with heaven, not against it.

Be blessed
