THE 2018 Zimbabwe National Volleyball League ( ZNVL) season gets underway today with games at the University of Zimbabwe courts.

Bulawayo is being represented by three teams — Spartans, Nust and Hurricanes.

The league was initially set to start next week, but was been brought forward by a week to allow players to vote in general elections on July 30.

“With a total of 13 teams confirmed, (eight men and five women), the league will be riding on the success story of three of its clubs (Support Unit, UZ Wolves, both men’s teams, and Harare City ladies team) at regional and continental stage.

“Champions of the 2017 ZNVL in the men and women’s leagues (Support Unit and Harare City respectively) went on to win the Zone 6 Club Championships held in Bulawayo in December 2017. UZ Wolves deservedly took silver in the men’s category,” said ZVA head of corporate affairs Nothando Magwaza.

“ZVA recently appointed Khanyile Dhlamini as chairperson of the ZNVL. She will be assisted by the ZVA control committee and the referees’ delegate to successfully run the 2018 league games. Teams will take turns to host the league matches. Apart from Harare and Bulawayo, places like Chiredzi and Chinhoyi will be treated to some top volleyball during the 2018 season,” said Magwaza.

She said ZVA will reward teams, technical officials and players that excelled in the 2017 ZNVL season this weekend.

“ZVA would like to take this opportunity to invite all interested volleyball stakeholders to come and celebrate the success story of the 2017 ZNVL season,” she said.
