Raza disgusted at Chevrons form

CHEVRONS’ all-rounder Sikandar Raza has expressed disgust at the national cricket squad’s appalling display against Bangladesh that saw them being whitewashed 3-0 in the one-day internationals that ended at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium last Friday.

When it looked like Zimbabwe, who made 286-5, would end their barren spell, Bangladesh came through to score 288-3 (42,1 overs) in a rapid chase and set up a 3-0 series whitewash.

Sean Williams (129 not out), Brendan Taylor (75), Raza (40) and Peter Moor (28) pillared the innings, but the Chevrons appear to have missed probably 30-40 runs more.

“Absolutely gutted that we couldn’t win this game. It’s hurting all of us! Really wanted@ sean14williams to get MOM (man of the match) trophy as that was his best inning of his career. We all aware that we have to lift ourselves up quickly as we have an important Test series ahead,” twitted Raza, who made his ODI debut in May 2013.

Whatever Zimbabwe achieved in putting up on the board, Bangladesh doubled it in quick time powered by a 220-run second wicket partnership between centurions Soumya Sarkar (117) and Imrul Kayes (115).

Seamer Kyle Jarvis (1-47) had struck gold with the first ball trapping Liton Das lbw and this turned out to be the only hopeful celebration Zimbabwe had for the night.

From there, Bangladesh came charging at the Zimbabwean bowling attack with the baptism of fire never ceasing until the Tigers purred home at close to seven runs per over.

Even the wickets of Sarkar at 220-2 in the 30th over and Kayes at 274-3 in the 40th over brought no joy for the Chevrons, whose bowlers failed to hunt down or at least cage the Tigers.

The Test series gets underway on Saturday and the Chevrons will be hoping for an improved showing against the Tigers.
