Chagonda, Manandi in race for Zifa committee positions
FORMER Zimbabwe Tourism Authority public relations chief Sugar Chagonda and Barry Manandi are reportedly gunning for seats on the Zifa executive committee in the December 1 polls.
The two public relations experts collected nomination forms last week ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, according to well placed sources.
“I’m certainly considering running, but still taking advice,” said Manandi when contacted for comment yesterday.
Chagonda, who is now head of public relations and community development at the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company, did not respond to questions sent to him, but Chronicle Sport has it on good authority that he is in the running.
Upon taking up the post at the diamond company, Chagonda was appointed secretarygeneral of Premiership bound Manica Diamonds.
The Zifa executive committee is made up of eight members, the president, vice-president, a representative of the Premier Soccer League as well as the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League and four members that are elected by the 58 delegates sitting as the electoral college.
Incumbent board member for finance Phillemon Machana long declared his candidature as well as the association’s president Phillip Chiyangwa and his deputy Omega Sibanda.
Bulawayo City FC protocol officer Eddie Chivero also confirmed last week that he will contest the board member position.
Recently elected Southern Region board member and former referee Bryton Malandule is also said to be keen on contesting national board post.
Mlungisi Moyo who contested and lost the Bulawayo Central seat in the July harmonised elections indicated last week that he wants to contest the post of vice president.
Former executive committee member Felton Kamambo last week called for an extension of the nomination deadline on the basis that he was denied access to nomination papers by the secretariat. Kamambo is serving a three-year suspension from football on allegations of seeking sexual favours from members of the Mighty Warriors’ squad.
