Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on flooding in Zimbabwe EDITOR — The Secretary-General is saddened by the loss of life, destruction of property and displacement of people due to the heavy rains and flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Idai.

The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the families of the victims and to people and Government of Zimbabwe.

The United Nations expresses its solidarity with the Zimbabwe authorities and stands ready to work with them as they respond to the humanitarian needs resulting from this disaster. Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General

RESPONSE to “Cyclone death toll tops 70”. Oh! God why? That’s a very sad situation in our country, Zimbabwe. Rest in peace my fellow Zimbabweans. — Briankasu.

RESPONSE to “Govt to blacklist, freeze terrorist funds”. MDCs are terrorist organisations. They organise violent demonstrations that lead to deaths and they call for sanctions against their own country. Freeze their accounts or better still give it to voluntary organisations like Jairos Jiri and old aged people’s homes who have been affected badly by the impact of their sanctions! — Truthhurts.

RESPONSE to “ED returns to be with his people”. Well done Mr President for this swift action. There is nothing you can do on your own but collectively we can chain up something, with your guidance of course, and mitigate on some of the devastating effects of such natural disasters. God bless Zimbabwe. — Wesley Musaninga.
