Mgijimi’s cause of death confirmed
LOCAL football is in mourning after a soldier of the stands passed away this week, with Mgijimi’s cause of death now determined.
The death of ever-popular and ever-present Orlando Pirates superfan Mandla “Mgijimi” Sindane was confirmed on Tuesday.
Sindane, who resided in Witbank, was found at his place on Tuesday afternoon by his father and it is believed he passed on overnight.
Many people on social media suspected he had succumbed to a coronavirus-related illness based on initial reports, but according to a family spokesperson the Bhakaniya died of a heart attack.
“We are fine despite the fact that Mgijimi is no more, but the way people are celebrating him uplifts our spirits man,” the late Mgijimi’s younger brother David Sindane tells KickOff.com.
“It shows he was loved. He did his part and contributed to the football of our country.
“Today we were with the doctor that tested him and he issued the medical report, and the cause of death is a natural death, but then he had a heart attack.
“It’s not related to Covid-19. As a family we also wanted a medical report that explained in detail as we are living in the times of this pandemic. We wanted to know if the cause of death was Covid-19 or anything that we don’t know.
“But he confirmed that it’s not the coronavirus, it’s the heart attack. He had a heart attack. According to them, it’s something that happened suddenly on that night.
“About the funeral, we are busy with the funeral parlour . . . there’s an indication although the final word will be tomorrow morning, but today we discussed and they saw a space around Sunday. Nine o’clock (in the morning) the service will start at home, and then there is a church near Mgijimi’s home. That’s where the service is going to take place.
“Just for an hour, because you see these (lockdown) restrictions, and then by 11 o’clock we must be at the gravesite. It’s this Sunday, in Witbank.” - KickOff.com
