Neymar achieves UCL milestone in PSG win

-

PARIS Saint-Germain superstar Neymar achieved a special milestone during his side's Uefa Champions League triumph over Atalanta on Wednesday.

The Brazil international played a starring role as PSG claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Atalanta in Lisbon, Portugal, with the Parisians netting twice in stoppage time to complete a remarkable turnaround and book their spot in the semi-finals.

Having previously missed a number of opportunities to get his name on the scoresheet earlier in the tie, Man of the Match Neymar made amends in the dying moments of the encounter when he assisted countryman Marquinhos for PSG's equaliser.

Moments later, he was involved again when he played Kylian Mbappe through on goal, who in turn was able to set Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting up to snatch the victory with just seconds remaining on the clock.

The former FC Barcelona star's contribution to PSG's first goal saw him become only the 12th player in Champions League history (since data has been collected) to achieve a quarter-century of assists in the competition, and the first-ever from Brazil to do so.

Neymar will have the opportunity to break into the top 10 in the UCL's alltime assists ranking when Les Parisiens take on the winner of the quarter-final between Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig, although he remains some way behind overall leader Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 40 Champions League assists to his name. — Reuters
