Komphela leaves Arrows for Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns have weclomed the arrival of Steve Komphela as their new senior coach just hours after his shock resignation at Golden Arrows.
KickOff.com revealed on Sunday that Komphela had resigned as Arrows head coach in order to take up a new role at Sundowns as part of the new-look technical team as the league champions seek to replace Pitso Mosimane.
Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena were appointed as joint head coaches last week as Mosimane’s official successors, with Masandawana revealing that the former holds the final decision within the technical team.
However, the treble winners have now added the former Kaizer Chiefs head coach to their stable as the assistant to the dynamic duo, who will be aiming to sustain The Brazilians’ domestic dominance in the inaugural DStv Premiership season.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are pleased to announce the recruitment of Coach Steve Komphela into the Masandawana technical team,” the club revealed in a brief statement. “His role will be the First Team Senior Coach and will report to the joint head coaches. “Coach Steve Komphela started his coaching career at Manning Rangers in 2002 and has gone on to coach in the national team structures with Bafana Bafana and the under 23.
“Some of the teams he has coached are Free State Stars, Maritzburg United, Dynamos, Bloemfontein Celtics, Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars which is where he got to meet Coach Rulani Mokwena. Welcome to Masandawana Jola!” — Kick Off.
