‘MUSIC BRINGS HAPPINESS IN MY LIFE’

-

HELLO H-Metro readers and gospel music followers.

I feel blessed contributing to this column From The Horse’s Mouth in my capacity as a gospel artiste, preacher and property developer.

I might be away from home - in South Africa doing God’s ministry but I still have my country at heart.

As a musician who has just received a calling to preach, I hope my piece of advice will change someone’s life. Read on…

BRIEF PROFILE

My name is George Nhete, a gospel artiste and preacher.

I was born in October 1985 and grew up in Mhondoro-Ngezi.

It was in Mhondoro where I attended my primary education at Gavhunga Primary School .

VISION

As a gospel artiste, my vision is to preach the word of God through music at international level, to touch people’s lives through music and entertainment.

I enjoy listening to music and learning from the message that comes from different songs.

Since I have been into preaching for a long time, I have always wanted to let the whole world hear the good news of the Bible and that is what pushed me to preach through music.

CHALLENGES

As an artiste plying his trade in a foreign country, life is never rosy.

Of course, there are challenges faced when trying to penetrate the music industry, especially in a foreign country but for me life was easier because I am a qualified pastor.

As a qualified pastor I see music as a great opportunity to explore my talent in preaching and setting captives free.

ROLE MODELS

Regarding my role models in music, the late national hero Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi is one of them.

Another role model in my career is Minister Michael Mahendere.

The two great artistes’ music inspires me a lot. Besides their music, the word of God is also my inspiration; it gives me strength, wisdom and encouragement every day.

To be honest with you, during my childhood I never dreamt of becoming an artiste, neither did I dream of becoming a pastor.

What I vividly remember about my childhood is enjoying going to church, and herding cattle and goats.

Besides music, I am into property business.

I build and sell houses, I am also into the transport business and I also own a Bible College.

I have always had a passion for music since the beginning of my pastoral career, I enjoy singing for my congregants.

I give thanks to my first producer Cloudious Moyosvi who invited me to record gospel sermons in his studio and that is what triggered the recording of my first track called Fear.

BREAKTHROUGH

At the moment, I can safely say I have not yet seen much of a breakthrough since I am just beginning the journey of music.

However, I am encouraged by my first single that fetched more than a thousand views on a short video clip on Facebook in one week.

I do not actually follow footsteps of any musician in particular but I learn a lot from the likes of Bob Nyabinde and Oliver Mtukudzi as well as other jazz musicians.

I also take music as a hobby since I have already established myself in other businesses.

FAME/LOVE LIFE

Nothing much has changed in my life since I started music except that I am now more busy and happier than before.

I have always wanted to give people reason to smile and that is what I’m doing.

I am happily married with three children – two boys and a girl. I got married in the year 2006 and I always say Glory be to God.

COMPETITION

I do not actually run the race of competition in music since it is my hobby. However I see music as a means of uniting people in the body of CHRIST. The challenges that I now face are on marketing and targeting to reach as many souls as I can, apart from time shortages.

I market my shows through social media and WhatsApp groups. PERFORMANCES

To be frank, I don’t have any worst show yet since I’m a beginner. However, I enjoyed my first show at Rapha Church of Christ last week.

I saw a lot of energy and appreciation during my performance.

DISCOGRAPHY

I am looking forward to releasing an album in the first of week of November 2020 which comprises of eight powerful songs.

As of now, I only have

Fear, Tinaro Simba released three singles namely and Living Word.

My fourth single will be released next week and is simply titled

Called (Mubhuku Reupenyu). ACHIEVEMENTS

My achievements in life include having a peaceful and loving family, building my own houses.

I have achieved three degrees in; Christian Counselling, Prophetic Ministry and an Honours degree in Ministry

I was ordained as a pastor in 2013 at Joy at Impact Christian University. I have been a marriage officer and performed a lot of marriage unions in the past 10 years. Glory to God.

At the moment, I am my own manager but I believe I shall find one if God gives me.

COVID-19

Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, I believe that artistes can play a role in fighting the spread of the lethal virus by leading by example.

For instance, we need to teach people on the sanctity of life. If your children lose you to Covid-19, hey will never find another parent like you.

Saka kuchengetedza upenyu wako, kuchengetedza ramangwana nemhuri yako.

If artistes can sing more songs teaching about social distancing and sanitizing, I believe we will win the battle.

Personally, I have been donating to the less privileged through my charity care (Rapha Charity Care).

I also use that opportunity to teach about how to keep safe during this pandemic.

ADVICE

My special advice to fellow Zimbabwean musicians is that they should love what they are singing.

We need to encourage artistes to sing music which changes the world and not only do it for money because if you sing for money only and if people do not receive you as expected, you become disappointed and you are likely to become hopeless and quit your dream.

Zvinhu zvose zvinoda kuitwa nemoyo wose, uye kushingirira kusvika wakunda.

I thank you!
