TelOne making a mark in communities: Minister
TELONE has helped Hurungwe Children’s Home, the elderly and rural clinics by donating food, blankets, facemasks and sanitisers.
TelOne donated 300kg of mealie-meal, 400kg rice, 200kg flour, 78 bars of washing soaps, 12kg teabags, 100 tablets of Jade soap, 25kg soya chunks, 48x300ml petroleum jelly, 200 sanitary wear, 200 books, 20kg salt, branded blankets, facemasks and sanitisers.
TelOne public relations officer, Hazel Ndebele, said they came to Hurungwe through their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program.
“We set aside a budget to take care of our CSI.” The CSI was guided by sustainable development goals which generated the five pillars of the TelOne programme, said Ndebele.
“So it is the social welfare pillar that has brought us here in Hurungwe to come and donate what we have to the children’s home, the elderly and rural clinics.”
“As TelOne, we sit down and profile the needy people in our communities, because we work with the community,” she said.
Ndebele said that her organisation did not operate in a vacuum.
“We are a responsible corporate citizen. So we want to give back to the community.”
Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mary Mliswa- Chikoka thanked TelOne for their timely response.
“Well done Telone. Over the years and especially in this trying Covid-19 era, TelOne has made considerable progress in redefining it’s business operations, to be centred on the people it serves.
“They have rallied themselves to strive to make a mark in the communities they operate from,” said Mliswa- Chikoka.
She added:
“This has since seen TelOne adopt a five pillar strategy that looks to uplift communities in the country.
“These pillars are education, health, environment, girl child and social welfare.
“Today here in Hurungwe, TelOne, through its timely donation is engaging with us, in order to provide solutions to all their five pillars,” said Mliswa- Chikoka.
“We want to applaud you TelOne , for this commitment and dedication towards your corporate social responsibility here in Mashonaland West province,” she said.
