CITY REOPENS CLINICS

- Karen Mhlanga

CITY of Harare resumed operations at most of its satellite clinics, which have now become fully functional.

This comes after a recent order by the High Court compelling City of Harare to open all its 42 polyclinics within seven days.

Acting Health Services Director Dr Kudzai Musunda said: “We have got seventeen facilities that are open in the city of Harare, two of them are infectious disease hospitals, 15 other facilities are our clinics and seven are polyclinics.

“Only seven clinics are operational, we are being affected by the industrial action by council nurses and some of them have resigned.

“Mubvuku Polyclinic which is on the eastern district of Harare is open, Hatcliffe Polyclinic which is dealing with the northern and also eastern parts of Harare is open, Mbare Polyclinic which looks at the southern part of Harare is open.

“The majority of the population of Harare lives on the western side so there we have opened a number of facilities, we have got in Highfield Polyclinic which is open, Budiriro Polyclinic, Glen View, Mufakose and Kuwadzana Polyclinic,” he said.

He added: “So basically we have an average of 1 500 deliveries per month in our facilities in Harare.

“There was a drop yes, in June and July but it has not gone beyond more than 30 percent reduction in deliveries so we are still doing fairly okay.

“It’s not only just looking at the public facilities that Harare has but we have also got a number of private facilities and we are also compiling information from them to find out if there are any deliveries happening there,” he said.
