Varsity students tackle college deaths

- Latwell Nyangu

Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) students are working on a movie, Fatal Affection, which tackles suicides, mysterious deaths and bullying amongst students in colleges.

The movie crew of Michael Muzoremba, Jonathan Gankila and Pride Kawara are currently auditioning.

Co-script writer Gankila said:

“I co-wrote the script with Michael Muzoremba after I came up with the concept.

“Our biggest challenge is funding and support, we are currently financing this ourselves but we are appealing for financial support and we are hoping to get assistance from the university.

“Other challenges include equipment and facilities and efforts to shoot have already begun.

“We can determine the release date once shooting has begun and we are not going to rush because we want a big project.

“We are currently auditioning and we are also scouting locations and all that should be done by end of October.”

Added Michael:

“The movie addresses the issues of bullying and injuring the self-esteem of fellow students which cultivates a need for revenge in the victim.

“The victim usually becomes a perpetrator in order to execute their revenge and it tells us to accept other people in the different ways they

appear and not despise them for being less privileged or different from us.

“The students are murdered by someone who makes it look like the deceased committed suicide.

The trio are studying for Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Visual Communication and Multimedia Design.

The cast is dominated by students from the school of art at CUT
