DOGS MAUL, KILL BOY

- Lovemore Chazingwa in KADOMA.

IN a horrific incident, three boerboel dogs attacked and killed a nine- year old boy in Kadoma.

Facts emerging are that Nigel Sabiti, of 268 Pixie Combi, was invited to play with his friend, 10-year- old Jayden Ogachukwu Nwaozuzu of 278 Pixie Combi last Thursday afternoon around midday where he met his fate.

According to ZRP Kadoma district spokesperson DCRLO Sgt Crymore Muriro, Jayden was left with the dogs by his father, Christopher — a Nigerian — who had instructed him to clean the dog kennels.

Sgt Muriro said Nigel went to his friend’s house as usual and little did he know that his friend was cleaning the kennels and the dogs were roaming the yard.

While Nigel was searching for his friend around the yard, the vicious security dogs suddenly got sight of the stranger, together with his younger brother, Tendai, 5, and another friend Tatenda.

Tendai rushed into a garage while Tatenda also sustained serious injuries on his leg. Nigel, who only rushed into an open tuckshop was mauled until his brother Tawanda, 17, rushed to the scene and grabbed the overpowered boy.

Nigel was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital where he succumbed to serious wounds sustained during the horror incident.

He was buried in Bluegrass on Saturday.

In an interview, Nigel’s father Matthew said the matter had left him devastated.

“When I was called by Clemence Machawu, I thought it was nothing serious, advising him to take Nigel to hospital for treatment. When Machawu told me that the matter needed more, I was shocked.

“After seeing blood in the car that came to ferry me to see him at hospital, it got even worse. I think he died well before he was taken to hospital.

“I had two children on the yard. His younger brother Tendai managed to hide in a garage,” he narrated in tears.

Contacted for a comment, Christopher — who operates a motor spares business in town — said he never imagined that events would go that way.

“I was at work with his mother. We leave home in the morning daily. These boys are friends who had joined to play as usual.

“We instructed Jayden to clean the kennels and it came to this.”
