CHIEFS HELD BY AGOSTO IN CAF

-

Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw against CD Primeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League second round first-leg on Wednesday evening.

Leonardo Castro started on the bench for the first time this season, as coach Gavin Hunt hand starts to Philani Zulu, Willard Katsande and Lazarous Kambole from the 1-1 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Khama Billiat caused the visitors a lot of problems with his off the ball movement and runs in behind the defensive stall following the opening exchanges of the match.

Chiefs secured the lead midway through the first half after Billiat ran onto a solid supply before bustling the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Agosto continued to live on the edge closer to the half-hour mark from a close-range attempt from Kambole from a corner-kick cannoned off the upright.

The Amakhosi ended the first half on the back-foot, as the visiting side went inches close to the breakthrough from a ball near the six-yard area.

Chiefs piled the visiting side under pressure minutes in the second half with a corner from Billiat narrowly missing the far corner.

Manyama launched the home side’s next pursuit to the opener inside 60 minutes after he forced Agosto goalkeeper Tony Da Costa to turn his speculative shot from range for a corner.

A substitution followed on the side of the Soweto giants within a minute, with Njabulo Blom sacrificed for Castro as Gavin Hunt threw caution to the wind.

Castro nearly made an instant impact after his solid strike forced Da Costa into a diving save before Eric Mathoho headed a big chance from a corner wide of the mark.

Chiefs pushed for the winner in the remaining minutes through Bernard Parker, Dumisani Zuma, Mathoho and Castro amongst others, but it finished goalless in the end. - Kick Off
