PROMOTED COP SHOT DEAD

A recently promoted police sergeant was yesterday shot by her husband at their matrimonial home in Chitungwiza.
Sgt Juliana Chirinhe, 37, was shot in her abdomen by her husband Seargent Tichaona Chirinhe, 38, and was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of hospitals where she was pronounced dead upon arriving.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confi rmed the incident saying police do not condone acts of misusing firearms and domestic violence.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to confi rm death of a female police officer alleged to have been shot by her husband yesterday,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
“The deceased and the accused person were reported to have been on night duty and met at their house where the incident occurred.
“Their neighbours were reported to have spotted the two walking together and later heard a gunshot at their house.
“Sgt Chirinhe stationed at CPU in Harare has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police do not condone misuse of fire arms and domestic violence.
“Investigations are in progress to ascertain circumstances leading to the loss of life,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
Impeccable sources close to the family say the two have been quarrelling with the wife allegedly being accused of infidelity.
Sources said Chirinhe has been suspecting his wife, who was based at Chitungwiza traffic section, of allegedly dating a man attached to Vehicle Inspection Department where she had been posted.
