Zanaco, Rangers miss chance

-

Zanaco missed the chance to go top of the Zambia Super League when they were beaten 2-1 by 10-man Power Dynamos yesterday.

Forest Rangers could have also claimed top-spot on goal-different, but they lost by the same margin to Kabwe Warriors in what was a surprise defeat.

But Zanaco will be perhaps most disappointed as they could not steal a march on the rest of the title contenders in what is a congested top half of the table that sees just three points between leaders Zesco United and Rangers in seventh. The latter have played two fewer games though.

Dynamos took the lead against Zanaco through in-form Godfrey Ngwenya midway through the first half, but they were pegged back by a Moses Phiri equaliser just before the break.

Ngwenya had them back in front from the penalty-spot with 20 minutes to play, but they went down to 10 men when Spencer Sautu got his marching orders shortly afterwards.

Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba put Warriors in front against Rangers in the first half, but the visitors fought back to equalise as Quadri Kola netted again in what is a rich vein of form for him.

It looked as though it would end in a draw before Mathews Nkhowane popped up in injury-time to score for the home side and hand them the three points.

There was also one game played on Saturday as Green Eagles fought back from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw at Indeni.

A Tiki Chiluba brace inside 24 minutes had Indeni in the driving seat, but Michael Mwenya pulled one goal back from the penalty spot just before halftime.

And when Ronald Chibwe netted 12 minutes from full-time, Eagles claimed what they will see as a solid away point.
