Strict conditions for RANL elections

- Shelly Guni

The Rainbow Amateur Netball League (RANL) has laid strict conditions for its elections scheduled for early next year.

Only those in the RANL structures are allowed to contest for the positions leaving no room for outsiders.

The RANL executive handed out some nomination forms from the secretary general, Moses Gukurume which were explaining who is eligible to nominate and be nominated.

“Those who are eligible to nominate are: RANL National League Teams and Regional Executive Chairpersons.

“The following people are eligible to be nominated: RANL National Executive Members, Regional Executive Members, Team Executive Members, RANL Umpires, RANL Coaches and RANL Players.

“For one to be nominated, he or she should have been in the above categories during 2019 season,” reads part of the nomination form.

However the move was met with mixed reactions with some feeling that the league has closed doors for other potential leaders.

“The elections should have been open to everyone. Remember when they started, it was still a new baby and some were left outside due to the impasse between RANL and the Zimbabwe Netball Association. Some could not contest due to different reasons,” a netball stakeholder says.

“So I think everyone should have been given a chance to contest for the greater good of netball, unless that’s what their constitution says.

“They can say that anyone with a traceable record can contest in the elections.”
