BARS, CHURCHES DISREGARD MEASURES
SOME bottle stores, bars and churches yesterday disregarded Covid-19 lockdown measures by opening with bars using other modus operandi to continue with business.
A number of imbibers accessed bars through back doors and bar agents selling outside the beerhalls. Some imbibers continued drinking beer at most shopping centres.
Government on Saturday banned bars, night clubs, church services with a congregation, weddings and gyms for 30 days.
Only funerals have been allowed to be conducted with gathering people not exceeding 30 people.
The ban follows a recent increase of Covid-19 positive cases and death records while some are recovering in isolation.
Several apostolic churches conducted services in the capital and a Pentecostal church operating at Zengeza 4 crèche was even using a PA system for the service.
Some churches in Glen Norah and Glen View continued with business although there were few people who attended.
In Glen View at Makomva shopping centre, a number of imbibers were spotted at the back doors of night clubs while at Glen View Complex groups of people were seen drinking beer at open spaces.
At Zindoga shopping Centre, braaing of meat was being done as if there were no restrictions while some motorists took their beers into their vehicles.
At Park Town and Fillers Shopping Centre in Waterfalls some people were buying beer through back doors or bar window openings.
In Queensdale and Hatfield some imbibers enjoyed their beers in parked cars.
Food shops have been directed to open from 8am to 3pm and curfew is between 6pm and 6am while people are urged to stay at home save for buying food and medicines.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned business people over defying Government directives saying police officers have been deployed to enforce law and order.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has deployed a number of police officers in various places to maintain law and order,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
“Police will not hesitate to arrest anyone found disregarding Covid-19 directives set by government to curb spread of the pandemic,” he said.
