CZR LAUDS GOVERNMENT ON COVID MEASURES

Confederat­ion of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) president Denford Mutashu has applauded Government for imposing new measures to curtail the spread of Covid19.

The CZR leader was in support in support of Government’s move to combat the rise in Covid-19 positive cases.

In a statement, Mutashu acknowledg­ed the new measures of the stiff lockdown announced on Saturday.

“As Confederat­ion of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR), we applaud the Government for stepping in by invoking tough measures to stop a looming catastroph­e amid rising cases of Covid-19.

“We are in an extraordin­ary situation which calls for extraordin­ary measures and discarding the business as usual approach, therefore, we should adhere to COVID19 guidelines.

“The measures are necessary to save lives, H. E President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record as saying it is better to save lives than the economy as the economy can die and it can be resuscitat­ed now or in future.

“President Mnangagwa has in the past said he has never seen “a conference where people are discussing how to resuscitat­e the dead,” said Mutashu.

CZR called upon its members to adhere to the new measures which mean opening and closing shops within the set timelines.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has reported 774 new positive cases of COVID-19 and three deaths as of January 3 January in country.

This brings the cumulative number since March last year up to over 15,000.

The new Covid-19 cases have seen the country’s positivity rate increasing to 23 percent, Harare leads with 4 631 cases and 164 deaths followed by Bulawayo with 3 561 confirmed cases and 98 deaths.

Last week, the Government postponed the opening of schools which was planned for Monday January 4 due to an increase in coronaviru­s infections.
