OUR VIDEOS MADE AN IMPACT: MUKOMA PANGA
SUNGURA artiste Mukoma Panga has vowed to invest more in videos this year.
Buoyed by the success of his two videos to the songs Chibhakera and Uri Wangu which made it on to the ZTV Top 50, Mukoma Panga said he would not look back.
“Sungura artistes have not been investing in quality videos in the past few years and I have decided top 50 of the ZTV.
“I was over the moon when the video to the song Chibhakera was voted at number 30 while Uri Wangu was voted on 25.
“I was humbled being the only sungura artiste with two videos on the programme plus also on the charts at National FM and Radio Zimbabwe,” he said.
He however conceded that the year 2020 had been challenging for several artistes.
“The year 2020 was a very difficult year for everyone with the Covid-19 scourge causing havoc globally. We have lost friends and family to this scourge.
“On the musical front, the year 2020 was very successful.
“Early in the year, l released the song Chibhakera off my forthcoming album Pfimbi yeGudo.
“It’s a song which addresses the issue of domestic violence in the Covid-19 era.
“Economic hardships should never be used as excuses to propagate gender based violence.
“’ The audio has an accompanying video featuring Kapfupi and his wife. Both the audio and video did very well.”
He added: “In mid-2020, I released the song Uri Wangu featuring Agartha Murudzwa.
“The song did extremely well and was on rotation on all major radio stations.
“The accompanying video features Tyra Chikocho, popularly known as Madam Boss and her husband Ngoni.
“Our song Uri Wangu was in the Radio Zimbabwe Top 50 as well as National FM Top 50.
“I am on a mission to reform sungura and put it right on top where it belongs.
“I also released the first ever animation video for the song JoJo na Jojina.”
He also opened up on his 2021 resolutions. “I think 2021 I will be far much better. Our next studio album Pfimbi yeGudo will be released sometime this year.
“There are some collaborations on the album. We are planning a different kind of launch for this album where most of the works were mixed and mastered by the great Nyamhondera,” he said.
