G-MAKUMBE: ZIM’S FINEST PRODUCER

-

GREETINGS H-Metro readers and music fans.

I am a media shy person, but I have done a lot for the music industry, which I will share with my fans so that I inspire others. Read on . . .

● BRIEF PROFILE

My name is Gibson Makumbe, simply known as G Makumbe.

I was born on the 20th of June in 1990 in Rusape, Manicaland.

For my primary education, I went to Yorkshire Primary School from Grade One to Seven. I completed my A-Level Studies in 2010

Regarding my marital status, I am married to Kudzai Marange and we are blessed with two kids; Danaishe (7) and a three-year-old girl Delma.

I am the third child in a family of five. I was born to Edison Makumbe and Sarah Nahako.

My father died when I was five years old and my mother died when I was 15, so we grew up as orphans, with our eldest brother being the bread winner.

● VISION

As a producer, my vision is to bring all melodious creativities to life; unveiling new talent just as I did pana Dhuterere.

My wish is also to bring new sound to the world thereby breaking new ground in the music arena

● CALLING

Music is in my blood. It was not my wish to become a producer, but it was a result of the frustration I was getting from other producers when I wanted to record. So ne shungu, I decided to learn how to produce

MAI TT and G Makumbe music on my own.

I didn’t have the intention to record other artistes, but my music only. Many people began to love my touch and I ended up recording more people kusvika

Lyton Ngolomi and Bothell Nyamhondera inspire me, while Alick Macheso, the Charambas, Fungisai and Shingisai are my role models.

They shaped my sound when comes to music production.

I am inspired by any melodious sounds; any type or form of music. Anything chinonakidza chinondibatsira kucreator something new

● WORKS

I have done many albums and singles for different artistes since I started recording in 2015. I can only mention some of the artistes I have worked with on albums, singles and collaborations.

I did Mambo Dhuterere’s album Tsamba (2017) pane ma songs like Ham Ham, Halleluyah Hossana.

Afterwards, I did the album

Dare Guru (2019), which has songs such as Mweya Ndisesekedze, Ahuwerere and

Ndotenda Ishe Wangu.

I also did the album Zvinodzimba Ngoni (2020),

Weumambo Nditarire — Mathias Mhere featuring Dhuterere, Freeman feauturing Dhuterere — Kutenda, takaiita na DJ Tamuka, Mbeu featuring Dhuterere coming soon and Baba Harare featuring Dhuterere coming soon.

I also worked with Mathias Mhere on the album Double Double, and on some tracks on his recent one.

Juntal — many people do not know I’m the one who produced the hit song Wangu Mutupo

I have worked with a number of artistes comprising Trymore Bande, Munyaradzi Munodawafa, Agartha Murudzwa, Vabati vaJehovha, Tatenda Pinjisi, Mark Ngwazi, Olinda Marova, Rumbie Zvirikuzhe, Carlos Green, Baba Harare, ZCC MBUNGO Stars, Diana Samkange, Itai Muchawaya, Lewis Ngara,Dorcas Moyo, Mpostori Wency, Noel Zembe, Rumbie Gatawa, Peter Moyo and many more.

I have also produced singles for other artistes comprising Andy Muridzo and Trymore Bande, Jah Prayzah and Vabati VaJehovha, Fambai Naro, Blitz Unique feautiring Vabati, Chief Hwenje and Obert Chari.

My happiest moment was when I realised that Wangu Mutupo, the song I did for Juntal, had become a hit muma streets ose and beyond borders.

● EMBARRASSING MOMENT

I was embarrassed when I got to know that Permican Awards last year had nominated most artistes and songs I had recorded in most of their categories.

I then looked for the organisers’ WhatsApp number and I asked them why I was not nominated as a producer since many of my productions and artistes were nominees there. I got no response, but only blue ticks, I was so embarrassed that day.

● SPECIAL THANKS

I would like to thank all artistes under my label VOT Studios and Makumbe Productions for their unwavering trust in me, sponsors, and fellow producers like Lacky Kaparautsi, Lyton Ngolomi, Dj Tamuka, Maselo, MacDee and Gasani etc.

Thank You!
