Chikwende on new challenge

Perfect Chikwende describes joining Tanzanian giants Simba SC as a big challenge.

The star left FC Platinum to join Tanzanian club Simba SC following a good performanc­e in the CAF Champions League which attracted attracted many clubs.

“Its always a big challenge to join a new team and in this case one of the biggest and oldest teams on the continent.

“It is naturally a privilege to be able to don a shirt of such a heavyweigh­t team knowing the expectatio­ns are definitely higher and because of Simba SC’s rich history you know that you have to sweat it on the field every time you are called to represent the team,” he said.

Chikwende was also on Azam’s radar but but later settled for Simba.

“I knew Simba Was interested as were several other African clubs. I left home with the conviction that Azam was the destinatio­n when the deal fell through I was convinced that I was bound to leave Zimbabwe by August .

“This then came and I took it with both hands.

“What a surprise it was that they had actually had their ears on the ground

during the talks involving my transfer,” he said.

He added:

“I am not privy to what happened with Azam but was informed that they had filled their foreign player quota.”

The former Bulawayo Chiefs star says he wants to quickly jel and be able to do his best.

“Football is a team spot whereby you can’t have personal targets .

“I honestly wish to quickly acclimatiz­e with my teammates and fans and be able to do what I do best which is play football without pressure.It is a new team ,new league , different culture different philosophi­es as far as systems of play are concerned etc so in time I will be able to tell you what I can achieve in my endeavor to make Simba SC achieve it’s set goals , remember I am one of many.”

Chikwende has attributed his success to his mother.

“My mother, she taught me that I have to do everything I do to the best of my ability that I have to put my heart and soul into every game.

“Its either you are in it to play whole heatedly or don’t play at all.. there is no middle ground.

“She taught me to respect everyone you meet in life nomatter their circumstan­ces as you don’t know what tomorrow brings .

“I also have to give credit to the Most High because without him all is not possible and because he has carried me this far,” he said.
