LOCKDOWN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CLAIMS LIFE

- Arron Nyamayaro

A 23-YEAR-OLD Binga woman was found dead after an episode of domestic violence with her husband.

The now deceased had deep cuts on the throat and on the chin.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying the woman is suspected to have been sexually abused before being murdered.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police expresses concern over murder cases being committed during this lockdown period,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

“Most of these cases are emanating from petty disputes caused by criminals who lack respect for the sanctity of human life.

“In one such case which occurred at Gaths Park Mine in Zhombe on 25th January 2021 at around

0800 hours, a 30-yearold man was fatally assaulted by six men using knives and machetes after a dispute over gold ore.

“In another case which occurred on 21

January at Gezani Village in Chikombedzi, a 76-year-old woman was assaulted by her grandson who accused her of bewitching him.

“The victim was assaulted using fists and open hands, and she later succumbed to the injuries and died on 23 January,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

In another case, the ZRP confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Magwegwe in Bulawayo for murder which occurred on April 18, 2019.

On the said date, a 26-yearold man was found dead along a footpath in Old Magwegwe.

Investigations by the police led to the arrest of the accused person on the January 21 and he has since appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate.

“Police urges members of the public to shun resorting to violence as a mean of solving disputes,” said Asst Comm Nyathi. “They should not take the law into their hands but report to the law enforcement agencies or approach third parties for assistance to resolve conflicts,” he said.
