Makusha has represente­d the country at a numbet of tournament­s like the — World Relays, Africa games, African Senior Championsh­ips, Southern region Games — where he has also managed to win medals while raising the country’s flag up high.

He holds the Zimbabwe 4x100m relay record, he is also ranked third and fourth in the 100m and 200m in the all time fastest Zimbabwean. Makusha is also a southern region gold medalists.

Due to the Covid-19 induced lockdown in the country, the star is unable to train freely and is hoping to travel to South Africa to intensify his preparatio­ns ahead of the major qualifiers.

He bemoaned the overchargi­ng of training facilities highlighti­ng how it has impacted negatively in his preparatio­ns. “The biggest challenge I’m facing is access to training facilities here in Zimbabwe, if you want to use the track they charge a lot money not considerin­g that you are doing it for the country so it end up being a strain. we end up training on grass fields which disadvanta­ge us a lot.”

He however appeals to the corporate world and well-wishers to assist him and promises to make the nation proud.

“I’m just appealing to everyone to assist me in achieving this dream. Every little cent will help no matter how small it will help a lot and will surely do my best to make sure it’s not in vain. I will make it to the Olympics and make the nation proud.

As a way of raising funds, Makusha has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help him raise funds. “So I set up the Go fund me campaign in order to raise funds that will assist me in a training camp in Pretoria South Africa where I will be training at the high performanc­e center.

“Since right now I’m not able to train here in Zimbabwe facilities due tothe lockdown restrictio­ns.

“It’s important that I get adequate training if I’m to make it to the Olympics, so my plan is to travel to SA for three months train and compete in Olympics qualifier events whist there for that same period.

“I’m just appealing to everyone to assist me in achieving this dream,every little cent will help no matter how small it will help a lot and will surely do my best to make sure it’s not in vain make it to the Olympics and make the nation proud,” he said. Asked om how he has been managing he said: “Currently I’m trying to do some workouts at home but it’s not adequate, I can’t go to the training facilities because of the restrictio­ns, that’s why I’m pushing to go to SA,” he added.

Makusha said he is hoping to leave the country mid February if all goes well.
