BUDIRIRO FLEA MARKET OPEN!

- Arron Nyamayaro

IT was business as usual at Budiriro 4 Shopping Centre yesterday as some residents opened their flea market stalls, disregarding Covid19 national lockdown measures.

A number of people flocked to the place for shopping, despite the call to close non-essential businesses.

One of the clothing vendors argued that they were operating until 3pm.

“Yes, we have been operating and we make sure we close our business by 3pm since we need food on the table,” she said.

“Tikaramba takagara tinofa nenzara saka tavhura misika yedu,” she added.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police, City of Harare and Combined Harare Residents Association yesterday carried out awareness campaigns in the central business district, Southerton, Highfield, Glen Norah, Glen View and Budiriro urging people to observe Covid-19 regulations and curfew.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Chazovachii who was leading the campaigns said their main thrust was to educate people on the dangers of spreading the pandemic and risks of getting infected.

“We are carrying out awareness campaigns to educate people on the importance of preventing the risk of contracting Covid-19 and curbing the spread of the pandemic,” said Insp Chazovachii.

“Police has noted with concern that a number of people are putting on face masks for the purpose of avoiding arrest whereas it is for their own safety and that of others.

“Most of those wearing face masks do not wear them properly thereby risking their lives.

“It is not the time to visit relatives, lovers or leave children playing outside the house as the pandemic is taking lives daily.

“We were urging people to observe curfew period as well as adjust their time of traveling especially those who are offering essential services in other suburbs or in town,” he said.
