MARK NGWAZI SPEAKS ON ZIMA MISS

- Edwin Nhukarume

SUNGURA fans are crying foul after their favourite artiste, Mark Ngwazi, missed out on the Best Sungura ZIMA nomination.

The sungura category has four artistes — Delroy HKD, Sulumani Chimbetu, Tongai Obert Moyo and Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zacharia.

However, Mark Ngwazi was undoubtedly the popular sungura artiste in 2020 as he topped the end of year Radio Zimbabwe charts with the song Taurai Madzoka.

His music was also frequently played on the streets by sungura fans, making him the undisputed sungura favourite last year.

Therefore, sungura fans expected to see Ngwazi among the Best Sungura nominees.

However, Ngwazi told H-Metro that he didn’t submit his name for ZIMA nominations and did not explain further why.

“I did not submit my work to ZIMA,” said Ngwazi.

One of the nominees, Tongai Obert Moyo, who also had a good year with his single Cain and Abel is optimistic and believes he might scoop the award.

“I am confident we can pull a shocker since we have been working very hard to push the Utakataka brand.

“We have an amazing flavour of Utakataka music. We believe our fans will support us all the way.

“Even if we do not win, the nomination itself is a great achievement,” said Moyo.

Music fans are not happy with some of the nominations as some big names such as Winky D and Jah Prayzah are missing from the nominees.

Other music fanatics believe Gemma deserved nomination for Best Female category than Ammara Brown.

Gemma is not on the nomination list too.
