Kadoma Covid-19 stats worrisome
THE number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in Kadoma continue on an upward spiral and the local authority has scaled up lockdown enforcement operations in a bid to contain the scourge.
The City Health Department last Friday released a communiqué to apprise the public on the state of affairs in the city.
“The cumulative number of Covid-19 confirmed positive cases recorded stands at 276 with 212 recoveries. Forty-five are active cases and 20 people succumbed to the disease as at January 28, 2021.
“The city will acquire two hundred more RTD Antigen testing kits,” read the statement.
The department said it visited the hotspots, farm produce markets, bus terminuses and shopping centres where it observed complacency in masking up, physical distancing and sanitising.
The report stated that: “Disinfection was done at Town House and five residential places of Covid-19 cases.
“The health department has carried out a cumulative 245 PCR and 126 Antigen tests, with 59 council staffers testing positive.”
City Health Director Dr Daniel Chirundu raised concern over human traffic to the city centre.
“We have a considerable number of people moving to the CBD. They are not properly masking up and that is a worrisome trend,” he said in an interview.
On their part, law enforcement agents have up-scaled their raids on Covid-19 protocol violators.
More roadblocks are now mounted on all major routes into town. Even bush and loop roads are combed for potential violators.
Foot and vehicular patrols by the security details have visibly increased.
