DIAMOND PLATINUM CONSOLES KING 98

- Trust Khosa

KING 98’s handlers yesterday expressed gratitude to Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, who gave the Zimbabwean rapper a shoulder to cry on a month after losing his father.

The two artistes, who collaborated on the song Kachiri, which has an accompanying video, shared the stage in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

King 98’s late father and former Impala Car Rental CEO, Thompson Dondo, brokered the deal after being recommended by Nigerian superstar Davido.

“King was invited to Tanzania by Diamond Platnumz for a show over the weekend and we are grateful for the support he has been receiving from the East African star and fans.

“The two guys (King 98 and Diamond Platnumz) have always been in touch and he is really committed towards cheering our boy who lost his father.

“This is the kind of support we never expected from him and in true ubuntu, Diamond has showed us that he is indeed a genuine brother.

“The show went according to plan and it was just a good way of appreciating each other and we hope King 98 will build from that bromance,” said DJ Simmz, who doubles as the rapper’s manager.

DJ Simmz said King 98 was ready to continue with his career even though he is still mourning.

“We were all devastated as we began the year on a bad note and we needed enough time to mourn our hero.

“However, we have realised that there is need for continuity and we will also be celebrating our late CEO’s legacy as be opened doors for us.

“Mr Dondo laid the foundation and new avenues he created for us before his death will always remain vital in everything we do.

“We are just going to continue keeping his legacy alive as well as putting into practice some of the principles he taught us before his death.

“He was a hard-working person who did his best to ensure that we have a decent future,” he added.

Prior to Dondo’s death, the award-winning businessman had been bankrolling King 98’s career.

To date, King 98 has had massive collaborations with some of the continent’s best, comprising Davido, Zlalatan, Diamond Platnumz, Jumma Jux and South African rapper Nasty C.

He has also collaborated with locals and there is one pending duet with Jah Prayzah, which was recorded a few days before Dondo’s death.
