Warren Park residents cry foul

- Elizabeth Nyaguyo

WARREN PARK residents have expressed disgruntlement over the suburb’s damaged roads, despite ratepayers continuing to pay.

Most roads in the area have potholes with some even found at gate entries.

In an interview, the residents blamed the City of Harare for failing to fulfil its service delivery mandate.

“City of Harare has proved that they have failed to conduct their job properly.

“Roads are seriously damaged and they are always giving us excuses that they are affected by the lockdown.

“They also blame the rain season as they say they cannot maintain roads during this season,” a resident known as Baba Chipendo said.

Chipendo added that he is affected by a huge pothole in front of his gate and this has turned into a daily depression.

“Another thing is in front of my gate is a very big pothole that disturbs me daily; we no longer have freedom because of this pothole,” he added.

Another resident Joseph Moyo also said: “City of Harare has turned a blind eye on us as Warren Park residents because you can see our roads are only suitable for trucks and other big cars, small vehicles now struggle to drive around,” he said.

Acting Harare City Council spokesperson, Innocent Ruwende, said it was difficult for the council to maintain roads during the rainy season.

“Provided we get funds from Zinara which collects licensing fees, we can make efforts to come and provide service.

“Once we get the funds, the HCC will effortlessly come to maintain the dilapidated roads in Warren Park.”
