Chinhoyi okays lockdown extension

- Paul Pindani in CHINHOYI

CHINHOYI residents have applauded the Government’s decision to extend the Level Four lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Last week, Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who also doubles as the Minister of Health and Child Care announced the extension of the lockdown to February 15.

Moses Mupinga of Cold Stream, Chinhoyi, applauded the Government for the extension of the lockdown since the nation had seen an upsurge in the number of Covid-19 cases including deaths.

Mupinga said that it was imperative for the people of Chinhoyi and the nation at large to take heed of the extension as there was a likelihood of new strains and variants, according to health experts.

“Everyone has a duty and obligation to save our nation by maintaining social distancing, staying at home, getting tested and if positive to self-isolate and always mask up,” he said.

Memory Chirandu from White City, concurred with Mupinga, and urged all Zimbabweans to stay at home.

She said that the extension was a positive response to the pandemic.

Chirandu said although the numbers were decreasing of late, it was very important for the Government to extend the lockdown.

However, she warned people against derailing Government’s efforts by violating lockdown regulations.

Chirandu commended police in Chinhoyi for their strict enforcement of the law.

“The police in Chinhoyi has been doing a great job in making sure that violators of the lockdown are arrested. People are now taking heed because of the prohibitive fines,” she added.

Lovemore Zuze of Hunyani Section said that the lockdown extension was welcome.

He said that he was in full support of the lockdown extension.
