SHARING KEEPS US GOING - MUCHAWAYA

- Trust Khosa

ITAI MUCHAWAYA, son to the late Kasongo Band founder Mukoma Ketai, says nothing beats sharing and caring during trying times.

The Chitungwiza-born entertainer, who doubles as an entrepreneur, said his siblings and band members are well catered for during the Covid-19 induced lockdown as they share the little they have in their coffers.

“Like I have said in previous interviews, I am an entrepreneur who is in to the buying and selling of groceries and I always make sure that I share that little I have with others.

“I have learnt that such trying times call for unity among people to ensure that we soldier on and I would like to thank my father who taught us those principles; giving and sharing,” he said.

Despite the challenges that have left most players in the creative sector grounded, Muchawaya said it was high time they found a fall-back.

“Covid-19 has come as a lesson to most of us, that we can no longer rely on music alone. In life, we need to really work hard and use our influence as artistes to start other projects,” he said.

Buoyed by the success of his three albums

Ngoma Ndiyo Ndiyo released in 2014, Ngei Muchidero (2017) and Dzangove Ndangariro - said he was living his dream.

He vowed to continue doing his best to ensure the legacy lives on.

“As an artiste, I can safely say all is well on my side despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which has stalled our operations

“I wanted to record my album Kumazivandadzoka, but I ended up recoding a single featuring Bhozhongora titled Hupenyu Hwakakosha.

“The single was voted number 13 last year on the 2020 Radio Zimbabwe Top 50.

“I felt motivated by the support I got from the fans and people who voted for me,” he added.

Muchawaya, who lost his father in 1999 while he was in Form One, conceded that was it was hard keeping the departed Mukoma Ketai’s legacy alive.

“It’s hard to replicate my father’s talent and mannerisms, but I will always do my best to practice some of the things he taught me before his death.

“I will continue recording new music and even doing some of his remixes to ensure that I keep our legacy alive.

“To date, I have done what is in my power to ensure that I remain relevant and I have done the best I can,” he added.
