Usuthu, Celtic in seven-goal thriller
BENNI MCCARTHY’S AmaZulu moved further ahead of Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership standings after winning a seven-goal thriller in stoppage-time against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium.
In the build-up to the fixture, McCarthy talked up the idea of turning home into a “fortress” and his words will surely take new meaning after the dramatic events yesterday afternoon to warn league rivals.
Zambia international forward Augustine Mulenga, who’s been sparked into life since the UEFA Champions League winners’ arrival opened the scoring in the 12th minute, which provided the impetus for the PSL classic. Veteran play-maker Harris Tchilimbou, who was a real live-wire on the counter for John Maduka’s side throughout equalised on the half-hour mark, setting up the platform for the incredible second-half.
Siyethemba Sithibe and captain Tapelo Xoki looked to have sealed the points after making it 2-1 and 3-1 respectively with the latter finding the net from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.
But Siwelele fought back valiantly through a Victor Lestsoalo header and Tchilimbou completing his brace in the 87th minute which left McCarthy visibly riled up on the touchline.
However, Xoki had other ideas as his thunderbolt free-kick from virtually the last kick of the game sealed all three points and a third consecutive win for McCarthy at Usuthu.
The win moved them three points above of Chiefs in the standings after 15 games played while Celtic dropped down to 14th. - Kick Off.
