‘Don’t blame Bobby for Chiefs signings’

-

FORMER Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan says it is unfair to solely blame the club’s football manager Bobby Motaung for the recruitment of players at the club.

Khan had a successful spell in Naturena between 1999 and 2005 unearthing the likes of Jabu Mahlangu, Gerald Sibeko, Junior Khanye and Thabiso Malatsi in the process.

‘Bobsteak’ is often blamed for everything negative happening at Chiefs as he secures the signings, many of whom have not delivered in recent years.

“You know they have a scouting department and it’s about time that scouting department must be accountable,” Khan said.

“I think often people blame Bobby you know and I think it’s a little bit unfair because he is not the one that scouts . . . he is maybe the football manager, but these scouts have to do their homework and ensure that whatever information they give him is relevant.

“So in my opinion I don’t think it’s fair to blame Bobby because why do you have to blame a scouting department if you’re going to blame him? You know every time you hear people, ‘Aah Bobby is signing the wrong players...’

“Chiefs is a big club my brother, so from what I’ve been exposed to over the years in football, all the biggest clubs have what they call a scouting department that will look at three or four options,” he explains.

“And they look at the first option being player A, if they can’t get player A they have player B then player C. I think sometimes we tend to take the first player based on his performance.

“So when you look at your criteria for selection, you must tick off all the boxes. If there’s a criteria then the percentage of error would be smaller. When you look at how many misses Chiefs have had, you’ve got to ask the question, who-ever is scouting there clearly are not doing a good job.

“I’m not saying who is signing the players, yes Bobby may sign the players, but who is doing the scouting?” — Kick Off.
