MADONDO VOWS TO FIGHT ON

-

SUPER FLYWEIGHT champion Revai Madondo has promised to continue lifting the country’s flag high.

Madondo arrived in the country on Tuesday from Tanzania where she won the elimination bout against Stumai Muki last Friday.

She is now set to fight Argentinian, Mariela Ribera Vaverde in a WBO title fight in April this year.

Speaking to H-Metro, Madondo who was welcomed by her sponsors, said:

“I’m so happy with the way I raised the country’s flag.

“It’s not easy to triumph in another country with points, but the support I got from Zimbabwe motivated me to fight harder and outclassed my opponent from the first round. It was a fair play,” she said.

The 25-year-old, who turned professional in 2017, is now aiming for a world title.

“My wish is to be a world champion. I want to

be able to inspire many other girls in the community and help them understand that boxing is not for men only, even women can be champions also.

“I want to thank all my sponsors for the good work, I appreciate everything you are doing to me.”

Stanley Edwards of StanZee Borehole Drilling who sponsored Madondo’s journey to Tanzania said they are committed in seeing her (Madondo) journey succeed.

“She is a young superstar that my wife identified, my wife is a boxing fanatic she is very passionate about sport.

“We decided to get involved and try to see where we can do to help her in her journey.

“Now we are going to step up our efforts in helping her be4cause there is nothing worse than an athlete with potential struggling on her journey. So we are with her until the end and hopefully she will get there.

“So I think my wife as I mentioned earlier that she is passionate about the sport so I think she is going to partner her for life.

Another sponsor businesswoman Alexia D’Almeida who runs Antonio Holdings Group, a company that is into wines, event management and logistics said:

“We are very proud of her and we are we are happy for her win and we will try to sponsor in the future. The key is trying to bridge the gender parity gap and create an equal plain field for all female athletes that’s what we want to focus on.”
