KING ISAAC’S VALENTINE’S TREAT

- Nyasha Kada

UNITED STATES-BASED Grammy nominated reggae/afro jazz artiste King Isaac - real name Isaac Kalumbu - has released two love songs.

One of the songs, Ida Inini features veteran dancehall artiste Potato, while the other track Mugore Wangye, is sung in different African languages, including KiNyarwanda (Rwandan language) and RuNyankole (spoken in Uganda). “Mugore Wangye,” means, ‘my bride.’”

The same song contains Swahili, Shona, Ndebele and English lyrics.

King Isaac, who throughout his career has worked with Jamaican, African American, Congolese, South African, and now Ugandan musicians, values and promotes Pan-African collaborations in all spheres of life.

He believes that music is one powerful and effective way to foster Pan-African unity and cooperation.

“In the Pan-African world, we have so much to gain through working together. We share so much culturally, such that music can be a starting point to open up doors of greater integration and collaboration in business, science, health, education, trade and other areas,” he said. Speaking about his two love songs, he said: “The message in the songs is love.

“Valentine’s Day is a good time to release these types of songs when people can focus on the very human and natural emotions of loving and caring.”

Ida Inini is a song that brings the two genres of lovers’ rock and dancehall reggae together.

Speaking about his collaboration with Potato, he said:

“This was the first time working with my brother Potato, though we have known each other for a long time.

“It was great working with Potato. He’s got great talent and so good musical vibes just flowed, and we blended in an excellent and amazing way.”

King Isaac, who has six albums to his name, revealed that his music has been well received by fans over the years.

He said more great music is coming during the course of the year, as he is doing final touches on his seventh album.

King Isaac, Munokokwa Mese, Here I Go Again, Isaacs Meets Isaac (with the legendary Gregory Isaacs) and Makuwerere are some of the albums he has released in the past years.
