REVEREND CHIVAVIRO, SON SHINE

- Mathew Masinge

REVEREND TOGAREPI CHIVAVIRO and son Tinashe have vowed to continue raising the Zimbabwe flag high at their new base in the US.

The duo was recently awarded for Outstanding Gospel Student and Outstanding Song of the Decade, respectively, at the Zimbabwe Community News (ZCN) Awards held over the weekend.

The inaugural ZCN awards were held virtually after organisers decided to honour local businesspeople, gospel musicians, community builders, rights defenders and social entrepreneurs for their outstanding work in empowering the Zimbabwean community locally and in the Diaspora.

“My son and I would like to thank everyone behind the ZCN awards for recognising us in the music sector.

“It had never been part of my thinking that one day I would share the same platform with my son and let alone be awarded for the same cause.

“This has only been the Lord’s doing. Glory be unto Jesus,” said Chivaviro.

He said he was working on recording a song with his son.

“We are working on giving our fans something to cheer to during the lockdown and this song will be special to both of us as we celebrate both awards.

“As always, we say thank you to our fans who continuously stand with us,” he said.

The musician recently teamed up with eight other artistes to record a collaboration - Kana Tayambuka.

This time around, the singer collaborated with Allan Chimbetu,

Mai Patai, Blessing Shumba, Mai Chivaviro, Rumbie Zvirikuzhe, Dorcas Zvirikuzhe and Dorcas Moyo.

The song is doing well locally and will be featured on his forthcoming album.

Chivaviro will be launching his new album virtually.

Other notable ZNC Awards winners include human rights champion Ekenia Chifamba and renowned producer Mono Mukundu, among others.
