PRISONS ‘TO FULLY USE FARMS’
THE full use of prison farms will ensure Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service achieve self-sustenance in terms of food security.
Commissioner General of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Moses Chihobvu said this in his speech at the conferment of badges of rank to Deputy Commissioner Generals last week.
The three, who were recently promoted by President Mnangagwa, are Manetswa Christina Manhivi, Social Ndanga and Granisia Musango.
Comm-Gen Chihobvu said the promoted Deputy Commissioner Generals are expected to continue supporting the full implementation of all Government policies, which he said are designed to increase the economic growth and development of the nation.
“I want to emphasise that you are expected to bring ideas and create possible solutions to challenges faced by the organisation in achieving its constitutional mandate,” said Comm-Gen Chihobvu.
“One of our most urgent priorities is to provide adequate food to our ever increasing inmate population.
“In this regard, I call upon you to work as a team to fully use the farms that were allocated to us through the land reform programme.
“It is therefore my expectation to see you, as a team of Deputy Commissioner-Generals, sharing ideas and exchange experiences and notes in order to come up with the best tactics and strategies that will see the organisation go a long way in achieving set objectives,” said Comm-Gen Chihobvu.
Acting Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Kazembe Kazembe conferred the ranks, reiterating that prison farm production will no doubt aid in making the nation the breadbasket of Africa once more.
