House fire: Tenant appeals for help

A 33-YEAR-OLD Kwekwe resident is appealing for help after her rented apartment in Mbizo 13 high-density suburb was badly damaged by fire following a gas tank explosion on Wednesday night.

Veronica Vheremu, a single mother of one, was left with nothing as all her belongings were burnt.

Speaking to H-Metro, Vheremu appealed for help from well-wishers to assist her renovate her landlord’s house and buy food and clothing.

“I am a single mother of one and I survive on buying and selling different things that include clothes and shoes among other things.

“I used to operate a flea market, but due to the Covid-19 lockdown, I took all my belongings for safe keeping here at home. Little did I know that this gas explosion tragedy will leave me with nothing.

“I have nothing left: no clothes, no food, no furniture and my landlord also wants me to renovate the damaged property so I have nowhere to start from,” she said.

The explosion happened while her child was cooking inside the house, but fortunatel­y no one was injured. Ward 4 Councillor, Mercy Ranga also appealed to well-wishers to assist the woman to rise again.

“As the councillor, I am also appealing to well-wishers to assist this woman because she has nowhere to start from; the situation is just bad.

“I will also organise with the ward developmen­t committee to find ways to assist her as well so that she can get back on her feet,” she said.
