Poptain expected more awards

- Edwin Nhukarume

ZIMDANCEHALL star Poptain, who received the Best Collaboration Award with Allanah for the song Fadza Mutengi at the Zimas on Saturday night in the capital, said he had expected to bag more gongs.

Poptain was nominated in five categories, which included Best Male Artiste, Best Collaboration, Best Zimdancehall Artiste and Song Of The Year.

Some Zimdancehall followers also expected Poptain to win more than one award, including the Best Male Award.

Zimdancehall fans, who are inclined to Poptain, are of the view that Poptain released more hit songs like Munhu Wenyama, Fadza Mutengi and also some good collaborations, like Kokai with Nutty O.

Poptain’s sentiments are of a person who felt he was robbed of accolades as he said he worked hard last year, but it was not well appreciated.

“I obviously expected more because I was aware of how much work I put in, but I guess people see differently.

“Only God knows. I am just happy I won something. I trust only in God. I don’t know how to feel about awards, but to be at least grateful to have won one,” said Poptain.

Poptain has, however, said he will keep on working hard and strive to produce good products as he promised more fireworks this year.

“We can surely guarantee more work this year as we keep on pressing hard. We want to release more good work for the masses.

“For now we can’t disclose what is in the pipeline,” said Poptain.

Meanwhile, some of the Zim dancehall followers believed Nutty O should have also won something as he had a good year with his singles that were well received in the streets and topped charts on local radio stations.

Nutty O released Safe, a song which did well and is still one of the most played songs in the streets and Kokai with Poptain, which also once topped on Trace Africa TV charts.

However, Hello Mwari singer, Jah Master, was the one who went home with more awards as he scooped three awards: Best Zim dancehall Artiste, Song Of The Year and Best Male Artiste.

Hello Mwari got a million views in a period of two weeks and it was well received, leading to a major breakthrough of Jah Master in the music circles. It also topped end of year charts on some local radio stations.

He also did fairly well with Anita Jaxon on their collaboration called Unonzani.

Some music fans felt the Zimas were fair and there was nothing much to complain about as most musicians were awarded fairly.
