DEFIANT BEERHALLS, NIGHT CLUBS TO LOSE LICENCES

BEERHALL, bar and nightclub operators who defied Covid19 regulation­s during the Easter holidays are having their operating licences withdrawn.

In a statement, police spokespers­on Assistant Commission­er Paul Nyathi said police will ensure that licences confiscate­d are handed over to the relevant Government arms for the stipulated penalties to be effected.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns all beerhall, bar and nightclub operators who breached Government’s Covid19 regulation­s that arrests are being effected with appropriat­e action now in motion to ensure that the Liquor Licensing Board complies with Government’s stance to revoke all licences for operators who are not complying with the law,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.

“Operators who defied the law during Easter Holiday in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare and other towns are being dealt with.

“The public is therefore urged to continue supplying informatio­n on these errant beerhall, bar or nightclub operators for decisive action to be taken,” he said promising to avail statistics in due course.

Meanwhile, police recorded 26 deaths in road traffic accidents as compared to eight recorded during Easter Holidays last year.

Number of injured people recorded were 149 in 231 accidents as compared to 22 injured in 178 accidents recorded during the same period last year.

Fatal accidents were 25 as compared to eight recorded last year.
