BILLIAT RETURNS, CHIEFS HELD

-

ZIMBABWE international, Khama Billiat returned to action yesterday as Kaizer Chiefs twice came from behind in a 2-2 draw with Stellenbosch in a DStv Premiership match.

After a long injury lay-off, Billiat was introduced in the 65th minute and was soon on the floor after a nasty tackle by Stellenbosch captain.

He was however, okay to complete the match. Although he was not involved in either goal, Billiat looked lively and will be hoping to get more game time in upcoming matches.

In the Kaizer Chiefs starting line-up, Erick Mathoho and Willard Katsande came into the Chiefs’ starting line-up in place of the suspended Njabulo Blom and Yagan Sasman.

From a set-piece the winelands outfit would take the lead soon after. Mendieta delivered the corner from the left-hand side and Akpeyi came out but didn’t make it in time as Sinkala this time did get on the end of it and headed into an empty net for the lead.

It was all square in the 76th minute when Castro, with his first touch of the game, got between two defenders and headed in fellow substitute Reeve Frosler’s delivery in from the left-hand side into the back of the net.

Just three minutes later, Barker’s side restored their lead. Dimgba got the run on Frosler down the right-hand side and crossed for substitute Phathutshedzo Nange to head home.

The topsy-turvy nature of the match continued when i n the 85th minute, Barker’s side surrendered their lead for the second time in the match. The two youngsters combined as Mashiane cut one back across the box for Ngcobo to place the ball into the top left-hand corner despite the ball being a bit behind him and with Stephens getting a touch to it on its way in.

Castro then had a chance to complete his brace but headed well over from a free-kick as Gavin Hunt’s side’s unbeaten run stretched to six games.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns moved six points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership after coming from behind to defeat Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 3-1 yesterday afternoon. - Sports Reporter/Kick Off.
