Makusha relaxed

SPRINT sensation Ngoni Makusha is relaxed ahead of the All-Comers competition in Lusaka, Zambia.

The event is on April 10 and 11 and acting as a qualifier for the Tokyo 2022 Olympic Games.

Makusha is set to leave today from his base in Pretoria where he has been training at the High Performance Centre.

Makusha will compete in the 200m and 100m races and does not want to put himself under pressure as he attempts to make it for the world’s biggest sporting showcase.

“I’m getting closer and stronger by the day and hoping the race in Zambia this weekend will be the breakthrough,” Makusha said.

Makusha is fighting for 20.23 secs in the 200m and 10.05 secs in the 100m which are the qualifying times for the Olympics.

“Definitely I’m expecting to run my personal best in both events but at the same time I don’t want to go into that event with so much pressure because when you run with too much pressure you tend to tense up and you don’t execute the race properly.

“The best thing is, I’m just going in there and doing what I was doing at training, enjoy it, staying relaxed and time will definitely come.”

“The thing is I’m not going to put pressure on myself,”

He recently qualified for the African Championships, in the 200m, at the ASA Athletix Invitational Meeting in Johannesburg but felt it was not what he expected.

“Had a bad one and ran 20.94 in the 200m but it was an African championship qualifying time but I’m always aiming higher so obviously I was not happy.”
