ALL SET FOR ZIM@41 GALA

ALICK MACHESO and Leonard Zhakata will tomorrow lead an array of musicians billed to perform at the country’s 41st Independen­ce Musical Gala slated for Harare Internatio­nal Conference Centre (HICC).

Dubbed “Zim@41 Together Growing Our Economy for A Prosperous, Resilient and Inclusive Society,” the two music stalwarts are part of the strong line-up set to usher Zimbabwean­s into Independen­ce Day celebratio­ns.

However, fans will have to follow proceeding­s from the comfort of their homes in line of with Covid-19 prevention measures.

Besides Macheso and Zhakata, sungura lovers will be spoilt for choice with Mark Ngwazi, Simon Mutambi, Allan Chimbetu, Romeo Gasa and Madlela Skhobokobo representi­ng the genre.

Zim gospel music supremo Baba Machanic Manyeruke and Agartha Murudzwa are expected to bless the event along with Amos Mahendere.

Urban grooves stars — EXQ, Ti Gonzi, Good Child — are part of the line-up along with Juntal, Sandra Ndebele, Jays Marabini, Mbare Chimurenga Choir, LMG Choir, Madhonza Makuru, Iyasa, Bruce Machingura and Enzo Ishall.

Principal informatio­n officer Lenex Mandipaza, who is coordinati­ng the gala, said it was all systems go.

“A total of 23 groups will take part in the event, which is expected to start at 6pm before adjourning at 12 midnight.

“Afterwards, the event proceeds and is expected to end on the 18th at 6am,” he said.

Mandipaza said the event will be held in line with Covid-19 prevention measures where a limited number of guests have been invited.

“We are going to observe all Covid-19 protocols where a few guests from our parent ministry, party and selected members of the public will be allowed to attend the gala.

“We want to make it clear that the public won’t be allowed inside to ensure that we minimise numbers,” he said.
