FIVE suspected robbers have been nabbed over a spate of unlawful entry and theft cases which occurred in Ruwa, Highlands and Hatfield.

Three of the suspected robbers - Denzel Arubi, 29, Misheck Maisiri, 28 and Tinashe Tunha, 23, all of Eastview in Ruwa - are facing nine counts of unlawful entry and theft charges.

The other two - Tendai Goliath Nzara, 38, of Tagarika Flats in Mbare, and Dennis Mugabe, 48, of 2537 New Magada, Overspill, Epworth in Harare - are facing 12 counts of unlawful entry and theft.

Police Criminal Investigation Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Portia Chinho confirmed the arrest while also appealing to people who lost their property to visit Highlands Police Station and identify their goods among the recovered property.

“During the period extending from August 2020 to May 2021, the three accused persons terrorised residents of Ruwa by breaking into houses and shops stealing various household goods, clothing and groceries,” said Det Insp Chinho.

“The accused did their shenanigans at night when everyone was asleep.

“They used unknown objects to break and open the doors to gain entry into the targeted premises.

“In a related case, two more suspects were arrested for a spate of unlawful entry and theft cases in and around Highlands.

“They were targeting houses in and around Hatfield and Highlands.

“They would break into houses and steal property whilst occupants were asleep.

“Various goods, which include electrical gadgets, were recovered,” said Det Insp Chinho.

The total value stolen in all the 12 counts is $2 223 410 and total value of recovered goods is $1 087 070.

The accused persons were arrested following a blitz by the police after recording an increase in unlawful entry and theft cases in the area.

Det Insp Chinho also encouraged people to reinforce security at their premises. He also warned the public to be careful when buying second-hand goods.

“We also warn members of the public against buying cheap second hand goods from back yards as they risk being arrested for receiving stolen property.

“Residents of Ruwa, Highlands and Hatfield who might have lost property by means of unlawful entry are encouraged to visit Highlands Police Station and identify their property,” she said.
