FIRE VICTIM SEEKS HELP

‘I NEED MONEY TO REPAIR DAMAGED ROOM’

- Arron Nyamayaro

A CHITUNGWIZA vendor who lost her son in an inferno has been asked to repair the fire-damaged room.

Precious Mudzingwa, 38, is still sleeping in the damaged room where her four-year-old son, Hillary Macheka, was burnt to death last Wednesday.

The caretaker of the house Patricia Chipazura, 68, asked her to repair the house before she can move out.

Mudzingwa lost property worth US$2 000 and important documents in the inferno. She is appealing for assistance to meet Chipazura’s demands.

“My challenge after laying my son to rest is to raise money needed by my landlady to repair the damaged room,” said Mudzingwa.

“She wants cement, roofing sheets, door and the locks damaged when the house caught fire.

“I admit to leaving my four-yearold son sleeping alone with a lit candle leading to the fire that burnt him to death and damaged the house.

“I lost all my money, birth certificates for my four children and mine as well and I have nowhere to start.

“I am appealing for assistance so as to repair the house.

“We are sleeping in a room without a roof and my landlady does not want me to look for alternative accommodation before repairing the room,” said Mudzingwa.

Chipazura told H-Metro that the house is owned by her son-in-law who is based in South Africa and she cannot allow Mudzingwa to leave without repairing it.

“Imba ndeyemukuwasha wangu saka ini ndirimuchengeti chete,” said Chipazura.

“It is better for her to repair the house,” she said.

Mudzingwa needs more than US$400 to meet the cost of repairing the house.
